Who doesn’t love Halloween? We personally love the whole thing from dressing up to creative DIY makeup and not to forget those spooky looking treats! And if you are a pet parent or pet buddy who is currently enjoying the company of furry friends, dressing up pets may cross your mind. Who doesn’t love seeing them in their adorable or spooky costumes? It could be an awesome idea whether it is for a family selfie or if you are planning to attend one of the pet friendly events taking place this weekend. Halloween is filled with light-hearted tricks and treats, but do our pets share the same enthusiasm?
That is an important question to ask ourselves. As sometimes, it really breaks our hearts to see pets being dragged around in their costumes clearly not enjoying it and people aren’t aware of it. Even the most sociable animals can feel anxious and frightened, so it is important to keep that in mind when you plan to celebrate Halloween.
Just like people, dogs and cats are individuals, and no two animals are the same. For some pets, getting dressed up and the attention their costume brings, is super exciting. For others, however, it can be less positive, ranging from mild discomfort to a serious anxiety-inducing experience.
If you want to include your dog or cat in the Halloween fun, practice positive association as well as making sure you keep safety in mind. In our recent podcast, I have shared how you can help your pet feel comfortable, what sign of discomfort to look at and safety tips. Nonetheless, for those dogs and cats who enjoy being part of the fun here are some DIY costume ideas. These are amazingly simple and fun to make, and I have also described each step in the podcast.
